An open school is a more engaging environment for learning and makes a vital contribution to the community: student projects meet real needs in the community outside school and draw upon local expertise and experience. Learning in and together with the real world creates more meaning and more motivation for learners and teachers.

The Open Schools for Open Societies (OSOS) project created a core network of a thousand schools that together formed hundred hubs in twelve countries. All these schools were involved in the project in two implementation phases (school year 2018-2019 and school year 2019-2020).

Schools were supported to make vital contributions to their communities, student projects met real needs, were presented publicly, and drew upon local expertise and experience. The school environment fostered collaboration, mentored and provided opportunities for learners to understand and interrogate their place in the world.

The Open Schools for Open Societies project supported schools to implement Open Schooling approaches.

NUCLIO was one of the Portuguese partners in this project.
