Portugal marked a prominent presence at the 14th European Science on Stage Festival (SonS 2026), which took place between May 28 and 31, at Klaipėda University, Lithuania. The event gathered around 500 teachers from 34 European countries to share projects, methodologies and innovative practices in the teaching of STEM areas.
The Portuguese participation counted with one of the largest national delegations, integrating 18 participants, including teachers and institutional representatives. The delegation was accompanied by Isabel Borges, Coordinator of Science on Stage Portugal, and Teresa Direitinho, representing NUCLIO, the entity responsible for the coordination of Science on Stage in Portugal. The national presence also counted with the contribution of Rute Oliveira, Science on Stage Ambassador, and Liliana Fernandes, member of the Board of Science on Stage Europe.
Throughout the festival, the Portuguese delegation presented six educational projects – selected during the National Festival – and also four initiatives developed in collaboration with teachers from other European countries (Joint Projects). Furthermore, the delegation held workshops that highlighted the quality and innovation of the work carried out in Portuguese schools.
In this edition, SonS 2026 privileged collaboration and the sharing of good practices among teachers, reinforcing the role of international networks in the promotion of a more innovative, inclusive and sustainable STEM education.
The participation of NUCLIO in this European meeting reaffirms the commitment of the organization to pedagogical innovation, international cooperation and the valuation of teachers as fundamental agents of educational transformation.
On behalf of NUCLIO and Science on Stage Portugal, we thank the magnificent delegation of Portuguese teachers for their inspiring performance and the enthusiasm shown throughout the festival. Portugal stood out for the excellence of its projects and its remarkable capacity for cooperation and pedagogical sharing on the international stage!
