Objectives
The L-STEAM Summer School 2026 aims to offer a professional development opportunity that leverages STEAM education for inclusion, catering to student diversity while enhancing key competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence. A key objective of the course is the transformation of the educational paradigm within STEM fields, achieved through an innovative integration of arts and science.
The L-STEAM Summer School aims to equip educators with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to implement the L-STEAM approach effectively in their classrooms. It introduces key elements of the project and fosters collaboration across disciplines and countries. Specifically, the course seeks to:
- Build educator capacity by providing hands-on training, resources, and guidance for implementing the L-STEAM methodology, including tools for reflection and adaptation throughout the school year.
- Familiarize participants with core project tools, such as the STEAM IDEAS’ Square and Scenarios of Use, to support the design and facilitation of student-led interdisciplinary projects that blend science and the arts.
- Develop strategies for inclusive and gender-balanced participation in STEAM activities, with an emphasis on engaging girls and promoting equity in science education.
- Introduce monitoring and evaluation practices, including qualitative and quantitative assessment tools, to help educators track student outcomes and their own professional growth.
- Strengthen transnational collaboration and exchange, fostering a network of committed educators who will contribute to the sustainability and scaling of the L-STEAM approach across different contexts.
- Encourage the integration of L-STEAM practices into school development plans, supporting long-term institutional impact.
Methodology
The Summer School adopts a hands-on, experiential approach, blending theory and practice to immerse participants in the L-STEAM educational framework. While grounded in the project’s core methodologies, such as Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE), Design Thinking in Education, and open schooling, the course is designed to go beyond theoretical learning.
Participants will actively experience the L-STEAM approach by engaging in the same process their students will undertake: exploring scientific concepts through artistic expression, particularly theatre-based techniques such as movement, improvisation, and narrative construction. Through collaborative workshops, they will co-create a performance piece, integrating science and the arts, and reflecting on the learning process from both teacher and student perspectives.
Preparation
To be announced.
Follow-up, recognition and evaluation
All participants will receive an official Certificate of Participation, indicating the total number of training hours completed during the Summer School. This certificate may be used for professional development recognition in their respective institutions or national teacher training systems.
Participants’ feedback will be requested after the course ends, including information on how they plan to implement the learned STEAM practices into their own classes. This will enable evaluation of the project and the improvement of future courses.
An online community will be established to support the sharing of participants’ experiences and to foster sustained networking beyond the course.

What is ERASMUS+?
Erasmus+ is the European Commission’s Programme for education, training, youth, and sport for the period 2021-2027. As an integrated programme, Erasmus+ offers more opportunities for the mobility of learners and staff and cooperation across the education, training, and youth sectors and is easier to access than its predecessors, with simplified funding rules and a structure that aims to streamline the administration of the programme.
Erasmus+ Key Action 1 (KA1) provides a unique opportunity for teachers, headmasters, trainers, and other staff of educational institutions to participate in international training courses in different European countries. Schools, universities, vocational education and training, and adult education organizations are all eligible to receive full funding to attend courses under a KA1 mobility grant. The Erasmus+ KA1 grant covers all the costs to attend teacher training courses: including travel, subsistence, and course fee.
For up-to-date information about Erasmus+ please check the Programme’s website. Your school will need to apply to your country’s National Agency, who is also the one who will evaluate the proposal. Therefore, your National Agency is also a very good point to start for more information.
Don’t forget to go through the New Programme Guide and you will have all you need to know.
